I was raised in Rhode Island, the middle of three children. My sister and brother still reside in the Ocean State. Although growing up there was not a great deal of extra money, my parents were keen on education. After graduation from high school, I married David in 1967, and together we worked and provided for our college educations. I graduated from Katharine Gibbs School with honors. After staying home for ten years raising our son, I went to work for labor and for the next twenty-five years, enjoyed my career with the American Federation of Teachers.
Having lived in the freezing Northeast all our lives, we always knew we wanted to retire to some place really warm; so when David accepted an “early” retirement (after thirty-five years with a public utility), it seemed only natural that we would land in Florida. I continued to work “up North” for five years, commuting back and forth, until I retired five years ago.
Since then, I have taken up golf. I also enjoy cooking, appreciate my home, and travel back and forth to Boston, where we take great pride in a wonderful family—son, daughter-in-law, and two beautiful granddaughters.
